ill titleSitting Around Time

I like sitting around
outside at night, in the dark, doing nothing.
It’s peaceful, calming and restful
after the hectic routines
of everyday life.

The darkness acts as a curtain
separating me from
all that should matter,
yet, at the moment,
doesn’t.

Across two fields and a row of trees,
a parade of streetlights line the passing highway.
They’re not very bright from where I am sitting.
They appear as shining stars
against the nighttime silhouette.

As each car passes, if I use a lot of imagination,
I hear breaking waves caressing a sandy shore.
The evening breeze lacks the flavor of the salty sea scent
but it doesn’t matter to my mind’s senses.
I can smell the salt anyway.

I think there should be more sitting around time,
no televisions, computers, meetings or overtime.
Nothing to do but look at the stars,
Listen to the waves
And let imaginations flow.
