Warm Summer Nights
I remember
Warm summer nights
With hours
That lasted forever
And air that hugged you
In a blanket
Of quilted comfort
I would lie
On my father’s porch
And stare at the dark blue canvas sky
Spattered with flickering speckles
Way too many to count
Even though I tried
Time and time again
On special nights
The northern lights
Would dance across the sky
To a tune from
The evening crickets and frogs
In a symphony of summer wonder.
I remember
Warm summer nights
Summer symphonies
And aerial displays
From my father’s porch
So long ago
So far away.
